Coffee in your luggage: the minimal travel setup
5Minutes

Six years of work travel taught me one thing: it is not the number of items that determines the cup, but which items. Here are the three I always pack.
The luggage setup
- AeroPress Go:Cup included, compact, indestructible. Does everything from espresso-style to a small carafe.
- 1Zpresso Q2 or Timemore Nano:Hand grinders, under 500 g. Fit in a backpack pocket.
- Kinto Tumbler 350 ml:Double-walled, no leaks. For hot coffee on a plane and cold brew on a beach.
- Bonus: small bags of pre-dosed coffee (17 g each).
Water on the road
In most hotels you can ask for filtered or bottled water. Avoid chlorinated tap water. If you do not have a gooseneck — use a cup or a kettle with a spout for a more accurate pour.
For temperature — boil the water, then wait 45 seconds. That gives you about 92 °C, close enough to the ideal.
The best coffee is not the one you drink at home. It is the one you managed to make wherever you happen to be.
